Why Journaling?

In our spiritual journey there are many ways to pray. What is most important is that we make time each day to pray. If you are too busy to pray, you are too busy. One way is simply to write down a few thoughts each day. Taking the time to recognize the movement of the Spirit in your life, and to give praise and thanks to God for your many blessings, is a wonderful form of prayer.

Try it this summer! Journal on your own--in your own handwritten journal, on your computer, or even share some of your thoughts here on this blog.

Start with this simple question: Where did I experience God today?

Join us tonight for Prayer Under the Stars, 7PM, in front of Church, and get started on summer journaling. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of rain, we will meet in Church. Journals provided!

After the Rain

Look! Look! That shrub dripping in diamonds!
Myriad Rain Sparklers with the afternoon sun glinting on them
and the leaves trembling a bit in the breeze fills my spirit with Rapture.
Thank you dear Lord!
Who said “My soul does magnify the Lord?”
Mine too Sweet Spirit!

I find that I’m way to busy working (surviving) to find God. But… I decided to really try by NOT looking so hard. So… Keeping it simple… I found God:

1.In waking up at 5AM to begin another day.
2.In the hot water running from the faucet.
3.In the bar of soap.
4.In the clothes in my closet.
5.In the orange juice that I drank.
6.In the yogurt that I ate, bacteria and all!
7.In the toothpaste.
8.In the other stuff in the ‘frig that would later provide nourishment.
9.In the morning sun.
10.In robins, sparrows, and chick-a-dees.
11.In the morning air, cool and crisp.
12.In the D&C delivered to my “paper box”.
13.In the grass in the front yard.
14.In the rabbit munching my weeds. (She’s hired!)
15.In left-over macaroni salad that I brought with me for lunch.
16.…Along with an orange.
17.In my spouse, still sleepy, as I said “see you tonight, be careful, I Love You…”
18.In my home as I locked the door, the roof over my head.
19.In my small, simple, car (5-on-the-floor, 40 mpg, should be good for 200K miles).
20.In the ability to drive.

Hmmm… Twenty things… (Probably missed a few, too.) And I had not yet even left the driveway…

PRAYER UNDER THE STARS (or was it prayer under the clouds.)

I found our casual, outdoor prayer experience to be very prayerful. I appreciated the opportunity to share on the various ways we experience God in the beauty of creation.

The music from our choir was outstanding and it lended to the reflective quality of our prayer.

I look forward to other opportunities in which we can share our faith with each other.

55 people gathering for prayer under the stars or the clouds is in itself a God experience: where two or more gather in His name............

I experienced God in my brother's hug and kiss when I brought the Eucharist to him after Mass today. My brother is suffering from bipolar and other mental related disorders.

Today I drove down to Irondwquoit Bay, the sound of the birds...the peace of the water lapping at the docks...the warming sunshine. What a joyous way to start the day sitting on the dock and absorbing it all in... Thank you God for this beautiful day

This past Wednesday, I took a drive with my 22 year old daughter to see my Mom in the Catskill Mountains. What a joy to see the rolling hills and farms as we drove. The 5 hours flew by as we chatted about her plans for Grad school. The smile on mom's face when we pulled into the driveway was priceless.Thursday was a busy day of power washing the house and hanging picture, projects she just couldn't tackle alone at 91. Then the drive home watching the sun set in the west with vivid colors and wonderful cloud formations... Who can not believe there is a God?
